How I use AI
Effective date: 17 June 2026
I want to tell you how I use AI, because you are trusting me with the inside of your head, and you deserve to know what tools are in the room.
Here is the honest version, both halves of it. AI has been a real accessibility tool for me as a neurodivergent person. It helps me get started when my executive function will not, tidy my spelling and grammar, and turn a wall of thoughts into something readable. That is genuinely useful, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. And, at the same time, I do not think AI is an unqualified good, or something to pour into every corner of a life. Plenty of it is hype, some of it is careless with people’s data, and none of it can do the actual human work of coaching. I hold both of those things on purpose. I use AI deliberately, in service of being more present with you, not because the world told me to.
So here is exactly what that looks like.
What I use AI for
Behind the scenes, I use AI to help me prepare for sessions, research topics, and draft resources and worksheets. When I do this, I keep everything general. Your name, and anything that could identify you, never goes in. If I want to think through a situation, I describe it in anonymous terms, the way you might tell a story without naming anyone.
For my writing, including this website and the blog, I use AI to help me tidy spelling, grammar, and structure. The experiences, the ideas, and the voice are mine. When AI has helped me draft or edit a piece, I say so. I will not pass off a machine’s words as my own lived experience, because that lived experience is the whole point.
For the everyday admin of running a practice, scheduling, organising, the boring glue, I let AI take some of the weight, so I have more energy for the parts that need a human.
Your session notes, only if you want them
If you would find it helpful to walk away with written notes from our work, I can make that happen, and only if you consent to the session being recorded. When you consent, I use Gemini inside my Google Workspace to turn the recording into notes for you to keep. Your session content stays inside that secure Google environment, is not used to train any AI model, and is handled under the same data terms as the rest of your information.
If you do not consent, the session is simply not recorded, and no AI notes are made. That is a real choice, not a polite fiction, and you can change your mind at any point, in either direction, with no effect on our work together.
What I will never do
- I will never put your name, or anything that identifies you, into a public AI tool like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini's consumer version.
- I will never let AI make decisions about your coaching or stand in for my judgment.
- I will never have an AI talk to you while pretending to be me.
- I will never present something AI wrote as if it came straight from my own experience without telling you.
Why I am this careful
Because your privacy is not a setting, it is the foundation. A coaching space only works if it is safe, and safety includes knowing where your words go. I would rather use these tools narrowly and tell you plainly than use them broadly and hope you do not ask.
AI can widen access, and that matters to me as a neurodivergent person and as a coach for neurodivergent people. It can also be used thoughtlessly. I am choosing the first and refusing the second, and I am happy to be held to that.
If you ever want to know more about how I use these tools, or you would like me not to use them in connection with your work, just ask. The answer will always be yes.
A note on this page
This reflects the ICF Code of Ethics and the ICF Acceptable Use of AI and Client Protection Guidelines. I write these myself; AI helps me tidy spelling, grammar, and structure. The experiences and ideas are mine.
